Many people I work with regularly do not meet diagnostic threshold for a mental disorder, but rather engage in therapy to enhance their insight and understanding about themselves and their lives. For some it is considered early intervention, focusing on emerging problems before they grow, and others may have experienced mental health issues in the past and would like support to maintain wellness in daily life.
I do not believe that anyone 'need' therapy. The very concept of needing anything usually means we don't really want it, and we may even dig our heals in the ground and actively try to avoid as much as possible. Needing something also implies a certain power imbalance or dependence which is usually unhealthy.
I believe therapy is something that can be very helpful, something that adds value, and when done well is about enhancing life in general rather than getting rid of symptoms or taking away something unwanted.
